SCARBO in Freiburg

November 11, 2024

The DFDC has an extensive touring programme this season and has the opportunity to present its works nationally and internationally on numerous different stages. Last Friday, "Scarbo", a solo piece by Ioannis Mandafounis and Manon Parent, was performed at the Freiburg Theatre.

The dance department at Freiburg Theatre has made it its mission to show what new forms the art form of dance is producing worldwide, what dance can be and become. Under the artistic direction of Adriana Almeida Pees, direct dialogue between the audience, the theatre and the artists is crucial to the dance programme - which is precisely what the DFDC and the choreographic work of Ioannis Mandafounis stand for.

In "Scarbo", the audience is drawn into the inner world of dancer Manon Parent. A world replete with sadness, anger, joy, helplessness and strength. Those are the feelings the dancer expresses through her movements – immediately and unfiltered. This shared intimacy is the core of “Scarbo”. During the piece, the audience is free to consider whether the states in question are real or fictional, memories of the past or a personal story being told.

It was a great pleasure for us to perform at the Freiburg Theatre and we are happy that it will not be the last time: We will be back on stage in June, this time in the main theatre with our double bill "Mandafounis / Forsythe", featuring "Lisa" by Ioannis Mandafounis and the new work by William Forsythe.
