Season 23/24
Dear Friends
We would like to welcome you to our 2023/24 season, which also marks the start of a new chapter for the Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company: Ioannis Mandafounis is beginning his tenure as Artistic Director and will be leading the company together with Annika Glose. The entire company invites you to enjoy a season of new creations and performative works on stage and in public spaces.
We want to share with you our love of dance – especially contemporary dance. Participation and communication define many of our creations. If you wish, you can play an active part. For example, at “À la carte”, the choreographic celebration we are using to launch our season, you can help determine how the performance unfolds. Or, at “One One One”, you can even become part of the piece itself.
We will not stop exploring movement and completing it through choreography. Live choreography, a further development of what we traditionally call dance improvisation, will become the company’s hallmark – always in relation to its roots in contemporary dance, in experimentation and in its history. This year, we have therefore invited two young choreographers to join us: Kristin Ryg Helgebostad and Sergiu Matis, whose new works will help ensure the coming season is a multifaceted one. Katja Erfurth will be contributing a piece for children and families to our program. “Lisa”, another new work by Ioannis Mandafounis, will be on the bill, as will “Scarbo” and “Bis.N.S. (as usual”), both previously unseen in Germany. As usual, the performances will take place in both Dresden and Frankfurt. Moreover, we will be using our website and newsletter to inform you about our coming guest appearances and tours.
Beyond our program of performances, we will also be organizing numerous events, from discussions to workshops, that will allow you to explore your affinity for dance and get to know the choreographic method developed by Ioannis Mandafounis. Everyone regardless of background can participate in our education program. We cooperate with the Palucca University of Dance in Dresden and the University of Music and Performing Arts in Frankfurt, along with other cultural institutions, to make our tools available to others and provide the public with access to our know-how. Sharing, connecting and inspiring – that is what is important to us, and we are eager to take the impulses present in Dresden and Frankfurt and incorporate them into our work.
Thanks to your support and trust and that of our partners, patrons and sponsors, we have the great opportunity – and great responsibility – to lead the Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company into the future. Everyone on the team is committed to making dance-dreams come true. In this spirit, we wish you much joy as you explore what our new season has to offer and we hope to see you at our performances.
Whether large scale or intimately designed, indoors or outdoors, in a theater or other venue, we will work tirelessly to enchant you with our dance, to meet you and share our love of our art with you. Join us as we create something new together!
