Naratives of the Climate Crisis – Lecture by Carolin Grumbach 16.10.2024

September 2, 2024

The climate crisis MOVES us all – it moves you, the visitors, it moves cultural institutions, and it moves dancers. Carolin Grumbach, a scientist in the modeling of environmental and climate systems at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research and the Institute for Environmental Systems Research in Osnabrück, and also a dancer and choreographer herself, is engaged in rethinking narratives about climate change, freedom, and prosperity. She would like to discuss with you the power of how we talk about the climate crisis and what each of us can DO and MOVE in response.

Carolin Grumbach studied mathematics and psychology in Bielefeld and wrote her master's thesis at Jiao Tong University in Shanghai. She then expanded her knowledge at the University of Osnabrück with a Master's degree in “Environmental Systems and Resource Management”. She conducted research on climate models at the Institute of Environmental Physics in Bremen and the Aerospace Center Oberpfaffenhofen and on population dynamics at the Institute of Environmental System Modeling Osnabrück. Since the beginning of 2024, she has been working in attribution research at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research. She is funded as a scholarship holder of the German National Academic Foundation. Carolin Grumbach is also a dancer and choreographer, including in the E-Motion ensemble, at Theater Bielefeld and at the Jugendtanztheater Bielefeld.
