A Land Within

A Land Within

Ioannis Mandafounis

“A Land Within” is a promenade performance that invites spectators to wander through a series of imagined worlds. Each location has its own identity, atmosphere, function and vitality that induces a distinct quality in the dance.

As the audience moves freely between the locations they travel through the personal emotions and states of each performer. This dreamlike journey is an invitation to explore a mosaic of stories that fan out the many facets of what it means to be human based on the philosopher Maxime Rovere's thoughts on conflict and forgiveness.

Press reviews

“So each room offers its own stories.[…] It is worth lingering and immersing yourself, especially as the art worlds are (sometimes more, sometimes less) oriented towards dialogue. They all develop their own unique pull, and it's great fun to follow the dancers in these semi-choreographed concept spaces with great potential for improvisation and perhaps even join in.” – Torben Ibs for tanznetz.de, 01.03.2025

“This company is really a stunner!” – Elisabeth Nehring for Fazit / Deutschlandfunkkultur, 28.02.2025

“It's really fun to see this, to experience it together with others. […] There are rooms where you don't want to go out again. You just sit down on the floor and stay. – Wiebke Hüster for Kultur heute, Deutschlandfunk Kultur, 01.03.2025

"Mandafounis‘ self-developed improvisation technique, which he calls “live choreography”, forms a wonderful basis for the dancers’ high individual presence. Their openness and spontaneity offer scope for the moment. The complexity of this, but also the emotional immediacy of the artistic realisation, seem to touch the premiere audience intensely." – Rico Stehfest for Dresdner Neueste Nachrichten, 03.03.2025
